DAHLONEGA ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS MEETING
MAY 5, 2008
The
Dahlonega Zoning Board of Appeals met at City Hall on May 5, 2008.
Council members present were Michael Clemons, Guy Laboa, Gerald
Lord, Sam Norton and Terry Peters. The meeting was called to
order at 6:00 p.m. by Mayor Gary McCullough.
A motion was made by
Sam Norton to approve the minutes of the last Zoning Board of
Appeals Meeting held on March 3, 2008. This motion was seconded by
Guy Laboa and approved by all members present.
City Attorney Doug
Parks conducted a Public Hearing concerning a variance request
submitted by Dave Steffes. Mr. Steffes advised that the variance is
for his property located at 34 Riley Road. The variance is to allow
a two-unit duplex on 11,625 sq. ft. instead of 30,000 sq. ft. Mr.
Steffes advised that he can provide safe access to the property and
traffic concerns have been addressed. He advised that this
neighborhood is sixty percent rental property. This is a corner lot
and it is within walking distance to the college. Mr. Parks asked
for comments either in favor or opposed to the application. Jim
Parks, an adjoining property owner, spoke in opposition and stated
that this is not suitable due to the narrow street. Mr. Parks asked
for staff recommendation. Planning Director Chris Head advised
that the Dahlonega Planning and Zoning Commission recommended that
the application be denied. A motion was made by Guy Laboa to
approve the planning commission’s recommendation to deny the
request. The motion was seconded by Michael Clemons and approved by
all members present.
A motion was made
by Terry Peters to adjourn the meeting at 6:10 p.m. This motion was
seconded by Sam Norton and approved by all members present.
